Certifications in IT can be a contentious subject. I see their value, but I can also see how they can be abused. The value placed is usually by those holding them, but certifications alone are not enough. Certifications must be tempered with experience.
I am currently employed as the Network Operations Manager for TWB where I am responsible for the daily performance and availability of the datacenter and all ancillary systems. I have been fortunate to be a part of, and/or led, major positive transformations at TWB from an IT infrastructure and compliance perspective.
TWB’s parent company, Worthington Steel, is listed as one of America's Greatest Workplaces for 2024! Much of the reason for this is due to the Worthington philosophy of treating others as you would want to be treated.
The United Way is an advocate of education, income, and health actively working to assist those in need. UWGT core values not only show in the community they serve, but also by their treatment of employees. UWGT is a great place to work.
I had the great opportunity, working under the direction of the VP of Information Systems and the COO, to move the UWGT datacenter to a brand-new LEED certified building. I was actively involved as the new site was built from the ground up right next door to the old building. I wrote my initials on one of the girders as the building was built around it.
We installed miles of network cabling, created a new datacenter, and migrated the Toledo 211 call center, not to mention moving all users and computers. It was a challenging experience and one that I truly value. After the work was complete the old five story building was demolished.
I started my IT career with a company called Harris Health Trends. This company was on the verge of major expansion and was quickly bought by a company called Axia. Axia was in turn bought by Healthways.
Working through the transition to Healthways from HHT was an awesome learning experience for me. I was really green when I started out, but I learned a lot during the restructuring and working with corporate IT. During my time there we added two call centers, went through SOX and HIPAA compliance, and completed the merger and acquisition process.
